Barcelona's start-up and tech scene means many foreign founders and professionals are visible on LinkedIn, in the specialist press and on social media. The typical cases are impersonation on LinkedIn or Instagram, defamatory threads after a dispute with a former partner and personal data that ends up on forums or directory websites. With each platform we use the right channel and the right reason, which is what makes the difference between removal and an automatic rejection.
Businesses that live from their rating
Restaurants, shops, clinics, studios and short-term rentals in a city with so many visitors depend on their rating on Google Maps or TripAdvisor. We see waves of one-star reviews with no real visit, reviews from competitors and reviews written to pressure for a discount. We only report those with a realistic chance of removal and tell you honestly about the rest.
Content in Catalan, Spanish or English
Much of what we see is published in Catalan, in local media or neighbourhood blogs, and some of it in English in groups for international residents. The language does not change the legal routes: the right to be forgotten, erasure of personal data and rectification work in the same way. What changes is who you are talking to and how.
APDCAT, AEPD and the courts
Catalonia has its own data protection authority (APDCAT), which is competent when your data is held by a Catalan public body, such as a city council or a Generalitat agency. If the content is on a private website, a social network or a search engine, the complaint goes to the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD). When a case needs to go to court in Barcelona, we work with a law firm and provide the certified forensic evidence.
Where we are
We do not have an office in Barcelona: our only office is in Tres Cantos, near Madrid, and we work remotely with the whole of Spain. Requests to platforms, search engines and authorities are made in writing, so you do not need to travel.
