What you should know before signing

Before an investment, the purchase or sale of a company, an alliance with a partner or the appointment of an executive, the accounts, contracts and legal risks are reviewed. Reputation is usually left out, and it is precisely what can do the most damage later: an old news story that resurfaces, a social media controversy, a sanction nobody mentioned.

We carry out that analysis methodically, using open and verifiable sources, and deliver it in a clear, confidential report. It is particularly useful for foreign investors and companies doing business in Spain, where much of the relevant information is only published in Spanish.

What we analyse

  • Google and other search engines: what appears when searching the name of the person or company, in Spain and in other relevant markets.
  • Media and newspaper archives: news, interviews, controversies and published court reporting.
  • Company registers and official gazettes: positions held, corporate links, insolvency proceedings and published sanctions, including Spain's Official State Gazette (BOE) and the Companies Register Gazette (BORME).
  • Social media and forums: public presence, tone, conflicts and third-party mentions.
  • Artificial intelligence: what ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity answer when asked about that person or company.
  • Reviews and opinions from clients, employees or suppliers when relevant.

What you receive

  1. An executive summary with the risks detected, ranked by severity.
  2. The detail of each finding, with its source, its date and our assessment.
  3. What we have not found, which is also useful information.
  4. Recommendations, for example what to ask the other party or what to clarify before closing the deal.

We always separate verified facts from mere mentions or rumours, and we point out when information is old, has been corrected or refers to someone else with the same name, a mistake that is more common than it seems.

Our approach

We work with information that is published and legitimately accessible, in line with data protection law. We do not access private accounts, we do not carry out personal surveillance and we do not use methods that could not be defended if they were made public.

If the analysis is about you

We also do the analysis the other way round: before others investigate you. Many funds, banks and companies consult compliance and risk databases that compile public information. If they contain inaccurate or outdated data about you, you can ask for it to be rectified or erased by exercising your GDPR rights, which protect anyone whose data is processed in the EU, whatever their nationality, and we help you do so.

That way you go into the transaction knowing what they will find, with anything incorrect already fixed. If you also want to improve what appears, take a look at our personal and executive reputation service.

Confidentiality

We sign a non-disclosure agreement before we start. Only the person who commissions the report receives it, and we do not share the identity of our clients or of the people analysed. We work remotely and in English, with clients in any country.

Tell us about the transaction you have in hand in the free analysis and we will propose the right scope.

Frequently asked questions

Is it legal to look into another person's reputation?

Yes, when it is done with public information, for a legitimate purpose such as a transaction or an appointment, and in line with data protection law. We do not carry out private investigations or surveillance.

Does the person being analysed find out?

We do not contact them. We work with open sources and the report is confidential.

Can you correct inaccurate data about me in a risk database?

We can help you exercise your rights of access, rectification and erasure with whoever is responsible for that database and, if they do not respond, file a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD).

What is reputational due diligence?

It is an analysis of what is publicly known and said about a person or a company before making an important decision with them, such as investing, buying the company, going into partnership or appointing them to a position. It complements the financial and legal review with image risks.

Which sources are reviewed?

Search engines, media and newspaper archives, company registers and official gazettes, published court rulings, social media, forums, reviews and artificial intelligence answers. We only use open, verifiable sources.

How long does a reputational due diligence report take?

Between one and three weeks depending on the scope: the number of people or companies, the countries and the depth of the analysis. If the transaction has a deadline, we adapt and tell you what is possible within that time.

How much does reputational due diligence cost?

It depends on the scope of the analysis. We agree with you what you need and send you a fixed quote in writing before we start.

What is the legal basis for analysing another person?

The GDPR allows personal data to be processed where there is a legitimate interest, such as assessing a partner or a candidate, provided it is limited to what is necessary and their rights are respected. That is why we only work with public information relevant to the purpose and do not carry out private investigations.

What does the final report include?

An executive summary with the risks detected and their severity, the detail of each finding with its source and date, and an assessment of its possible impact. We clearly distinguish what is proven from what are mere mentions or rumours.

Can it be done on foreign companies?

Yes. We also analyse sources from other markets relevant to the transaction, within the limits each country has on public registers. We let you know in advance if there are sources that cannot be accessed.

Can you carry out due diligence on my own company?

Yes, and it is very useful before seeking investment or selling. You will know what the other party is going to find and have time to correct whatever can be corrected or prepare an explanation.
